STEAMfest is designed to educate and inspire the young people in Compton to explore STEAM majors and foster interest in the varied applications of technology and science. STEAM – an acronym for “Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics” – is largely accepted as the foundation for the global economy and workforce of tomorrow.
The Compton Creek booth was focused on science and entomology, the study of insects, but other participants – including companies such as Google, Microsoft, SpaceX, Boeing, Project Lead the Way, and Starbucks – had tables dedicated to robotics, computer science and programming, and customizable games.
It was a huge honor to help inspire the next generation of scientists and mosquito control professionals – especially students who would have otherwise considered these fields an unattainable goal. We are already looking forward to inspiring more young minds during next year’s STEAMfest.
