Compton Creek Plays Ball at Sibrie Park Grand Reopening

The newly reopened park will serve as a community asset with a new T-Ball field, basketball court, picnic area, and walking trails.

Hosted by City Councilwoman (and CCMAD Trustee) Janna Zurita, Compton Unified Board President (and CCMAD President) Micah Ali, and the MLB Youth Academy, the event showcased Ex-Dodger Legend and Compton native Kenny Landreaux. The nearly 175 residents who came out were treated to free food and backpacks full of school supplies for the coming year.

Following the ribbon cutting, children had the opportunity to play games of T-ball on the new field while their families enjoyed the festivities. CCMAD was on-site to join the fun and had an information booth to share protective tips on how residents can stay safe during the height of the mosquito season.

Remember to protect yourself and your community by following these simple safety tips:

  • Remove all standing water on your property; that is where mosquitoes breed.
  • Ensure rain barrels are properly sealed to prevent mosquitoes from entering.
  • Ensure all screens around your home are in good repair to keep mosquitos out.
  • Wear loose long sleeve shirts and long pants to prevent mosquitoes from biting.
  • Wear insect repellant containing DEET, Picaridin, IR 3535, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.
  • Stay indoors during the hours of dusk and dawn, when many mosquitoes are most active.
