Two daily exposure windows — what to do at the bus stop, at evening practice, at home, and who to call.

Before your child leaves for school

Apply EPA-registered repellent before leaving home — all exposed skin, before stepping outside. Not at the stop.
✓
Wear long sleeves when practical — reduces the amount of exposed skin during morning hours.
✓
Wait in open areas when possible — away from dense vegetation and standing water rather than heavily shaded, still-air spots.
✓
Standing water near the stop? — Clogged drains and irrigation runoff near bus stops create breeding sites. Report to CCMAD.

Evening Practice

Before and during evening sports practice

Pack repellent in the gear bag — apply before practice begins. Reapply according to label directions.

Long layer for warmups and cooldowns — reduces the amount of exposed skin during evening hours.

Adults apply repellent to children — apply to your own hands first, then gently to the child's exposed skin. Avoid eyes, mouth, hands, cuts, and irritated skin.

Standing water near fields? — Irrigation runoff near dugouts and sidelines creates breeding sites. Report to CCMAD.

2 months – under 3 years Check Label See Label Age restrictions vary by product. Check epa.gov/insect-repellents for approved options and follow label age guidance carefully.
3 years and older Per Label EPA-Registered OLE is a CDC-recommended plant-based option for WNV mosquito protection. Always check the product label for specific age and application guidance.
