Compton Creek MAD Visits Local Students to Promote Mosquito Prevention

A sign welcoming visitors to Compton Early College, emphasizing its identity as "Home of the Rising Phoenix."

Last week, the Compton Creek Mosquito Abatement District had the pleasure of visiting Compton Early College High School in Compton to provide an educational presentation on mosquito prevention and public health. The session included 7th and 8th grade students, along with a group of 6th graders, offering an opportunity to engage younger members of the community in understanding how to stay safe from mosquito-borne diseases.

During the visit, District staff discussed the importance of eliminating standing water, protecting against mosquito bites, and understanding how mosquitoes develop and spread disease. Students were encouraged to ask questions and think critically about how their everyday actions can help reduce mosquito populations in their neighborhoods.

The District is grateful for the warm welcome and enthusiastic participation from students and staff alike. Special thanks go to Dr. Pamela Maddox and Ms. Jacinda Pich for their support in coordinating the visit and prioritizing student education around public health.

Community outreach and education remain a core part of the District’s mission, and opportunities like this help empower the next generation with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their families.
