Quebec Warns of Mosquito- and Tick-Borne Diseases

Quebec’s Health Department has issued a summer warning about the rise in diseases spread by ticks and mosquitoes, including West Nile virus, Lyme disease, and California serogroup viruses.

Warmer temperatures are helping ticks and mosquitoes survive longer, increasing their presence across North America. Residents are advised to protect themselves with DEET or icaridin-based repellents and to wear light-colored clothing when outdoors.

While the warning is based in Quebec, the concern applies across borders. California counties, including Los Angeles, face similar conditions—rising heat, urban sprawl, and expanding habitats for mosquito and tick populations.

To avoid mosquito and tick bites:

  • Stay on marked trails
  • Avoid tall grass and stagnant water
  • Use insect repellent and cover exposed skin
