Report Dead Birds Within 48 Hours: Help California Track West Nile Virus

Dead birds can be an early warning sign of West Nile Virus (WNV) in your community. When you report a dead bird within 48 hours of discovery to 1-877-WNV-BIRD (877-968-2473) or online at westnile.ca.gov, you’re contributing directly to California’s disease surveillance system.
Testing dead birds allows public health officials and mosquito control agencies to detect virus activity before it spreads to people or animals. Timely reports help guide mosquito abatement efforts and protect neighborhoods across the state.
⚠️ Only report birds that have died recently (within 24–48 hours) and show no signs of trauma.
